Time-Saving Tips for Moms With Kids in Therapy or LOTS of Appointments

If your week feels like a blur of therapy sessions, doctor appointments, school runs, and sports, you are not alone. As a mom of four, including one with autism who attends weekly therapy, I know just how exhausting those appointment-heavy days can be.

Over time, I have found some helpful ways to save time and reduce stress on these busy days. Here are my favorite tips that have made a big difference for our family.

1. Prep the Night Before

Spend a few minutes in the evening getting ready for the next day.

Leave NO decisions for the morning.

• Lay out clothes for everyone

• Pack snacks and therapy bags

• Pre-load the car with anything you will need

• Double-check your appointment times

I also love to premake breakfasts. Here is a great list of premade breakfasts kids will actually eat.

This helps mornings run smoother and prevents last-minute scrambling.

2. Keep a Car Kit Ready

Have a small bin in your car with essentials. This can include:

• Non-messy snacks

• Wipes and hand sanitizer

• A change of clothes

• Small toys or books

• A tablet or headphones

Having this ready means fewer stops and fewer meltdowns.

3. Simplify Meals

Plan easy meals on busy days.

• Use a crockpot or instant pot

• Plan a snacky dinner night

• Keep a few freezer meals on hand

I have a ton of crockpot recipes to help you out!

Give yourself permission to skip cooking from scratch on therapy days.

4. Stack Appointments When Possible

Ask providers if appointments can be scheduled back-to-back or on the same day.

Use waiting room time for small tasks like answering emails or placing grocery orders. This helps you stay productive and makes the most of your time.

5. Let Go of the Extra Tasks

Some things can wait. On appointment days, it is okay to let laundry or dishes slide. Prioritize what matters most and do not feel guilty about it.

• Paper plates

• Grocery delivery

• Minimal housekeeping

Final Thoughts

These small changes have helped me feel more in control of our busy weeks. I hope they help you too. If you have a favorite tip for saving time on appointment days, I would love to hear it in the comments.
